It’s not often I get pitched against graffiti… I don’t have that ‘edgy’ look (urgh, I hate that word so much, it’s such an awful term, almost as bad as ‘alternative’ [alternative TO WHAT?!?!?!?!?! ahem…]; clearly I’m not edgy enough to use it with a straight face), but still, sometimes it’s fun and unexpected to be relatively classic against something so urban. Textures ‘n’ shapes ‘n’ all that good stuff.
The following are from a fun shoot I had in Perth with Greg Sands and a couple of other photographers, which ended up with a detour via some kangaroos (not pictured, sadly). Can’t wait to be back in Australia later this year!
In stark contrast to the blog post below, I will leave it completely to you to imagine how this image was created. It’s a weird, freaky one – I love it!

at a Dobbelmen workshop
he and his colleague hosted, during my visit to the Netherlands last month. It was really fun to see what weird and wonderful shapes and patterns we could create!)
I had a really blissful time shooting in France recently (images on their way..!) and was picked up by a taxi, once back in London, to rush to the evening private view for a painter’s exhibition
I am currently featured in. I felt very jet set and glam (in my rain-sodden hippie dress and wet feet…. Upon arriving in London, a man even took it upon himself to mention to me that my long dress was going to get wet at the bottom(!). Ha.) Anyway, it was fun to spot 4 new drawings of myself I’d never seen before (I’m rarely allowed to view the results in situ…) and I was struck, as always, by the immense talent and vision of the artist across the whole exhibition. It’s lovely (and unsurprising) to see that at least one piece I modelled for had sold already.
Right, over and out – just a quick update. Gallons and gallons of images to come very soon; I’m herding them up gratefully to show on here from the incredibly generous and creative types who have pointed their lenses at me in recent weeks…
Actually, in other, tentative, should-I-mention-this news, I’m working towards a poetry collection on the subject of appearance/reality/identity/performance. Same old preoccupation… But I’m gathering a significant section of thought on the concept of ‘muse-dom’. It’s a lot of fun. I would publish things here but then that would mess up copyright/permissions, etc etc. (That’s the annoying part.)
I’m just about ready-ish for my imminent far-flinging-of-self to outward geographical extremities, from Kuala to koala, with some rice paddies, dragon-formed island cliffs, yoga classes & treehouse bars, ‘old quarters’ and kaleidoscopic underwater creature-greeting in between. I’m getting those last minute heebyjeebies, of course (well, they’ve been creeping up for a while..), but I’m used to that and I know things always tend to work out once you’re there. It’s hard to tear myself away from home, but hard not to! Adventures are calling.
I’ll be back sometime before Christmas (I’m not currently sure exactly when), and am now taking bookings for January. (Also, just to note, I’m keeping a list of photographers who’ve asked me to contact them to let them know when I’m back, in case we can fit something in before the end of the year. A final update before I go:
Modelling for the extremely talented 19-year-old woman that is Katie Eleanor was a pleasure. I had a quick jaunt to Hampstead Heath on a recent Saturday, to cavort with papier maché toadstools and have paper cut-out moths stuck to my body, before meeting friends in a Caribbean bar staged in an old shipping container in Shoreditch.
Katie is such an exciting, passionately creative person, and her style and penchant for whimsy and ethereal confusion and myth, stories and (tainted) nature is right up my street.
These were shot on film, then painted by hand afterwards. I think they’re a bit Victorian looking; a grown up flower fairy minus the flowers? I’m excited about following her work and seeing what she does next!
I have yet another collection of images to show you from photographer Jeremy Howitt today. A recent concoction of curves, bokeh, grass and reflections…
Jeremy found this beautiful location in Sussex and I had the immediate idea that I should lie down for this first close-in, abstract crop – I have no idea why, it just felt obvious when I saw the frame of the long grass in the foreground and water behind; and Jeremy got it pretty much how I’d imagined, if not better, with a slightly voyeuristic hint and beautiful focus – I love the three little dots of bokeh in the diagonal line as well! Then Jeremy played around with some reflections as I sat/stood/lay on the little wooden jetties that surrounded the lake. To finish, we did a little ‘Gaia’ set in the nearby field. We don’t often do portraits so thought it would be a good idea, then finished with some explosive hair, naturally.
