Norwegian Black – On an Island

Memories of this trip include lighthouses, rocks, funny Norwegian pancakes, beaches, sculptures, sub-sea tunnels and outdoor cats. We had a very productive four days, and so I will endeavour to divide the results into more than one blog post. I love so many. This selection, the ‘indoor’ side of things, was mostly taken while listening to Alicia Keys and Mark Knopfler’s brilliant Privateering.

A huge thank you to the multi-talented Sjur Roald, whose hospitality, too, was fantastic.

Morgan & Ellis Creative Experience Day: "How can a woman be expected to be happy with a man who insists on treating her as if she were a perfectly normal human being." Oscar Wilde*

I was asked to model for a Morgan and Ellis Creative Experience Day back in July, which meant I was the model (alongside the lovely Salleh Sparrow) for Scott Morgan and Ellie Ellis‘ tuition day at a beautiful manor in Bristol. I had often seen images from these two, and though their styles are distinctive, they are both beautiful, creative and interesting, so I was very much looking forward to meeting them. It was a really good day, with some stunning shots taken by the group attending. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and come away really inspired, so as a quick plug, here’s a link to find out more if you’re a photographer who might be interested in going along to such a day: http://www.morganandellis.co.uk/experience/.

I’ve kindly been sent some images to show off here. There’s going to be a mixed bag below (and yes, I’m posting a LOT), jumping around between different locations and back again, as I’ll list them by photographers rather than set (I’m sorry, it’s just quicker for me!). The lovely ethereal white floaty thing I’m wearing in some was provided for me, designed by Sian Whitefoot. The make up was by Gemma Louise Williams. Big thanks to everyone involved!

Enjoy!

Monbachtal

Another blog post in quick succession, but I’m keen to show off some images from another session in Germany, working with the excellent Steven Billups in the Baden-Wurttemberg area.

These were all taken on film, so we took relatively few compared to the average photoshoot (digital shoots can results in hundreds and hundreds of images), and there are so many that came out beautifully, we think. I love the tones and shapes and textures in these, and the water’s caught really well (not always the easiest thing, capturing moving water). There’s always such a sense of uncertainty with film – it’s not like digital where you can look at the back of the camera for reassurance – you have to trust you’re doing the best job you can (both the photographer and model), so maybe there’s something extra valuable about the feeling of getting it right!

Congratulations to Steven for selling quite a few prints recently of a shot we did last year, too!

Fee Tree

Well, Italy was amazing. Utterly Italy-ish. Rolling orange hills, chickens, a LOT of granita (Sicilian Spirit, lemon, mint, peach…), grapes plucked from vineyards, Botticelli and Titian – I can’t get enough of wandering around in wonder at the talent, myth and stories in the Uffizi Gallery. And Michaelangelo’s David (in the Accademia) really is a sight to behold (is it weird to fancy a sculpture? Hmm). I really must go to Italy again as soon as possible.

In other news, I am now gearing up for my trip to Vietnam, Australia, Japan and Bali. I leave in a couple of weeks! So much to organise it’s insane. It will be an amazing trip. Email me at ellarosemuse@live.co.uk for details!

Anyway, update time, and the following shots were taken in the south of Germany a couple of months ago. I stayed with Peter Gruener and worked with different photographers over two days for this part of the trip (I’ve included links on the first instance of each photographer being credited). We had a good time, despite heat and mosquitos, and I really love some of the images below. Thanks photographers!

Edwardian Ladies, Bridges & Stables

I’ve had two more recent shoots with the ever-brilliant Karen Jones, with lots of pretty pics to show for it.

First, there was a shoot alongside the utterly beautiful Leah Axl, who is one of the nicest people I’ve met in this industry as well has having one of those faces that just can’t be photographed badly. For that, Karen dressed up a swing seat in her back garden, and we posed as Edwardian ladies, sipping tea and balancing bird cages with lap-dog Pip (the pet extra), before heading outdoors into the on-the-doorstep countryside, dressed partly in each other’s clothes, for some bohemian adventures with sheep (not in shot…).

For shoot numero two of recent sessions, Karen and I were joined by Tony Nutley, who’s worked on many things, from Inspector Morse to Thomas The Tank Engine, and still hasn’t decided if he’s retired or not… 🙂 I first met him almost exactly four years ago, when the three of us had a little bash at some Lady Godiva-ing, and it was lovely to meet up again.
Tony has kindly sent me these:

… While Karen has kindly me sent me these, the first group of which were taken using the window-light of the stables:

Outdoors again:

And, now I’m nearly off for 6 days in Florence! I’m really excited! I will be checking out my good friend David while there and hopefully bagging some glorious images in the sunshine too. Ciao! 😉

Gaia, Jetty

I have yet another collection of images to show you from photographer J H today. A recent concoction of curves, bokeh, grass and reflections…

J found this beautiful location in Sussex and I had the immediate idea that I should lie down for this first close-in, abstract crop – I have no idea why, it just felt obvious when I saw the frame of the long grass in the foreground and water behind; and J got it pretty much how I’d imagined, if not better, with a slightly voyeuristic hint and beautiful focus – I love the three little dots of bokeh in the diagonal line as well! Then J played around with some reflections as I sat/stood/lay on the little wooden jetties that surrounded the lake. To finish, we did a little ‘Gaia’ set in the nearby field. We don’t often do portraits so thought it would be a good idea, then finished with some explosive hair, naturally.

Elephants

It was a pleasure to model again recently for Rayment Kirby, photography-improviser-extraordinaire (I was particularly impressed by the papier mache light, this time – Rayment is incredibly ingenious when it comes to creating equipment with which to work and produce various effects). We were working towards his latest book and created a good range of images, as shown below, with the aid of bohemian cushions, black fabric, jewellery, plastic sheeting, red rugs and rainy windows…

Life has been busy and hectic as always for me recently, with a bizarre emphasis on turning nocturnal over this last week or so, and some fun shoots in the early mornings, parties and exciting emails I don’t want to ‘jinx’ by mentioning. I’ve managed to be productive too, booking flights, visas, travel insurance, updating my website, repairing my car (well, not me personally; that would be disastrous) and generally catching up on all those mundane things which keep a world spinning. Off to Norway very soon! Will update again soon after that…
