Bit of a wordy post...⁣ I've been reading Cal Newport's Digital Minimalism, in which he advocates a careful, thoughtful approach to our use of our time and absolute scrutiny of various digital technologies before we fully incoporate them into our lives.⁣ ⁣ I'm really keen always on meeting new people in real, 'organic' situations and enjoy striking up conversations with strangers at events; I also love how refreshing it is when people come up to me, however shyly, and say a simple 'hello', even if they have no idea what to say next (because going up to strangers and introducing yourself IS hard for a lot of us). It really stands out as a genuinely lost skill; we are all so used to having the crutch of our mobile phones to gaze at when out in public and it's so uneccessary... and so lovely when this norm is thwarted. It feels so much more alive and open.⁣ ⁣ Relatedly, I love posting here daily, but I'm also aware, as a busy small business owner without a team of employees, of the need to constantly re-evaluate and optimise time management strategies. I sometimes wonder what it would be like to quit social media altogether, then often decide it is OK and still really positive, just so long as it's a beast kept tamed. It seems very 'not the thing' for a business like mine NOT to have an instagram account, and I am questioning this pressure while I know so many of you who order/connect reach me through here and am SO happy you do. I wonder what the answer is! Your thoughts are very welcome. ⁣ P.S. I also strongly recommend Newport's Deep Work.
